Did you know that...

Low academic self-esteem can have many repercussions and is behind many school failures. In other words, a unmotivated student despite receiving repeated help (family, extracurricular, from teachers) is unlikely to pass.

The use of grades as the sole method of understanding student learning causes the pressure to obtain better grades to increase, and when parents are overly demanding with their children, they can develop a real fear of failing in grades. what makes the learning process a martyrdom and not something enjoyable or positive.

Assessments with grades can be so standardized that from basic education the student gets used to studying just to "pass" or get the grade they want, leaving aside meaningful learning. This has the consequence that the quality of learning is not really known, but rather of the ability to memorize isolated data.

While grades help teachers to set a standard and make evaluating students easier and faster, this has the negative consequence that individual needs of students are ignored. No one thinks alike or has the same skills, so offering a single way to assess and qualify for everyone can be unequal.

Grades, like all numerical statistics, essentially fail when it comes to matters of quantities rather than qualities. This means that, with students so concerned with meeting quantitative standards, the space needed to explore their artistic, creative and rational side is left out. This causes them to finish the course focused on getting a grade, but without actually exercising any skills.

According to Jesús Medrano, a psychologist and teacher at the Technological Institute of La Laguna, when children get a negative grade they tend to feel frustration, stress and even disability.

The school teaches with 19th century methods, with 20th century teachers, to 21st century students.

The most common disorders caused by school stress are ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, childhood depression, and eating disorders.

Students who obtain low grades are often compared to those with high marks, and without adequate follow-up or support from teachers and parents, this can cause the student to feel less, or even feel incapable, that doubt your abilities, and therefore discourage you from continuing to strive.

The qualifications do not allow the development of thought which is a urgent need in the information and knowledge era. Without the exercise of this capacity we will be easy prey to the deception and manipulation of those who are behind the cultural, political, scientific and technological production.
